Paul A. Maritz
Chief Executive Officer and Director

Mr. Maritz, age 57, has been the Chief Executive Officer and a Director of VMware since July 2008. Mr. Maritz also served as VMware's President from July 2008 to January 2011. Prior to joining VMware, he was President of EMC's Cloud Infrastructure and Services Division after EMC acquired Pi Corporation in February 2008. Mr. Maritz was a founder of Pi and served as its Chief Executive Officer. Pi was a software company focused on building cloud-based solutions. Before founding Pi, he spent 14 years working at Microsoft, where he served as a member of the five-person Executive Committee that managed the overall company. As Vice President of the Platform Strategy and Developer Group, among other roles, he oversaw the development and marketing of System Software Products (including Windows 95, Windows NT, and Windows 2000), Development Tools (Visual Studio) and Database Products (SQL Server) and the complete Office and Exchange Product Lines. Prior to Microsoft, he spent five years working at Intel as a software and tools developer.

As Chief Executive Officer of VMware, Mr. Maritz has in depth knowledge of our business and brings to the Board of Directors insight and knowledge of our operations and strategic opportunities. In addition, Mr. Maritz's experience in the information technology sector ranging from development of software products to being part of the executive management team of a global software company and founding a company developing cloud computing software provides the Board of Directors with significant expertise on a variety of issues important to our business.
Carl M. Eschenbach
Chief Operating Officer and Co-President

Carl M. Eschenbach was appointed Chief Operating Officer and Co-President of VMware in April 2012. Mr. Eschenbach had previously served as VMware's Co-President, Customer Operations from January 2011 to April 2012 and as VMware's Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations from May 2005 to January 2011. Prior to joining VMware in 2002, he was Vice President of North America Sales at Inktomi from 2000 to 2002. He also held various sales management positions with 3Com Corporation, Lucent Technologies, and EMC.
T. Tod Nielsen
Co-President, Applications Platform

T. Tod Nielsen was appointed Co-President, Applications Platform of VMware in January 2011. Mr. Nielsen served as VMware's Chief Operating Officer from January 2009 to January 2011. Prior to joining VMware, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Borland Software Corporation from November 2005 to December 2008. From June 2005 to November 2005, Mr. Nielsen served as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Global Sales Support for Oracle Corporation, an enterprise software company. From August 2001 to August 2004, he served in various positions at BEA Systems, Inc., a provider of application infrastructure software, including Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Engineering. Mr. Nielsen also spent 12 years with Microsoft in various roles, including General Manager of Database and Developer Tools, Vice President of Developer Tools, and at the time of his departure, Vice President of Microsoft's platform group.
S. Dawn Smith
Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Secretary

S. Dawn Smith has been the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at VMware since September 2009 and Chief Compliance Officer since August 2010. Prior to joining VMware, Ms. Smith was a partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP since January 2008 and served as an attorney since 2005. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster LLP, she was an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati P.C.
Betsy B. Sutter
Senior Vice President, Human Resources

Betsy B. Sutter was appointed VMware's Senior Vice President, Human Resources in July 2009. Ms. Sutter previously served as VMware's Vice President, Human Resources from January 2001 through July 2009. Prior to joining VMware, Ms. Sutter was Vice President, Human Resources at Silicon Gaming from 1997 through 2000 and served in human resources management at Digital Equipment Corporation from 1989 to 1997.
